1965 Dodge Coronet 440

Owner: Peter Melhuish

A friend pointed out that this '65 was sitting in a junkyard in the Houston area. The car was complete, straight, virtually rust-free, and sporting 'Gulf travel club' decals on the window. Fortunately, this junkyard was the kind that kept certain cars out of their yard a while to see if they could sell the whole car.

Peter drove to the junkyard & made a deal on the car. He started the 318 motor and drove the car home. The only glitches were 1) the swirling huge mass of fiber particles from the seat stuffing blowing throughout the interior while cruisn' down the highway and 2) the brakes that pulled like crazy when asked to stop the Mopar.

Pete wanted to give the car to Linda, his girlfriend, for Christmas. He hid the Mopar behind his garage & managed to keep it out of sight for the week before Christmas day. On Christmas day, the first present Linda pulled from under the Christmas tree contained a '65 horn ring; the second present opened contained a set of '65 Dodge keys; and the third present opened held the title to the '65! Lucky for Pete, when Linda saw the Mopar in person, she was thrilled!

Pete's now working on a new brake system for the Mopar. He lucked out and found another '65 in a junkyard with power steering and is swapping the power steering into the black Dodge. A bit of paint and a new interior will follow.
