1965 Dodge Coronet 500
Hi, I have to tell my story.
Since I was a kid I have wanted either a '65 Coronet or '64 Sport Fury/Belvedere 426 wedge car (street or max didn't matter to me).
I ran across a '65 Coronet 500, very clean, all original, 426 street wedge, on ebay about a month ago, watched it go through, with reserve not met. I sent a personal offer, turns out a guy was selling it for the owner, so he sent me his phone number to call him. My offer was $2500 under the "buy it now" price, I didn't want to insult the guy so I never called him.
A week before my birthday July 30th, this same car is back on ebay. So I watched it go through again, it ended 10 minutes after midnight on my birthday, and not up to my offer. I couldn't sleep that night because I decided I would call the owner in the morning. The next morning of my birthday I called him and told him I was the guy that made the offer from the first auction, turns out my offer was $250 away from where he would sell the car!
I asked the condition and asked him to send me pics close up of underside to see if there was any rust and such. The car was about 400 miles away in St Paul, Minnesota. He said he would but he couldn't that day because he was waiting for his son to show
up so he could leave to up some parts in Milwaukee, I said really I live in Kenosha, he said he was going to greatlakes dragway (in Kenosha county) to pick parts. Then he said he would just bring the car and if I want it I would buy it and that he would be there about 7 O'clock (remember this is on my birthday, what are the odds)....
He showed up and the car is pristine and original. One birthday wish that came true and one very happy guy!
QUITE a birthday present! Congratulations!
And a gift that keeps on giving, too!
